Five Myths About Drug Addiction:
False. There is no such thing as a safe drug. To repeatedly use a drug of any type amounts to taking unacceptable risks with your life.
No, it might be for some. However, you never know when and how you might become addicted. Once addicted the fun and so-called recreational part turns into a spiral of self-derstuction.
There is often an illusion of camaraderie amongst people who use drugs together. This false sense of friendship comes to an end when one person’s addiction spirals out of control and they begin to steal from and cheat their friends out of drugs or drug money.
Once a person’s drug use crosses into addiction, they require more and more of the drug to induce similar feelings. This is the phenomenon of tolerance. In established addiction, the person is unable to function without enough drugs in their system. They feel bored and spend the rest of their time in withdrawal. The only thing that drugging relieves at this point is withdrawal.
Every addict hopes that they are in control. However, a person who is dependent on drugs is actually controlled by the drug. It takes time and repeated consequences for denial to give way to help-seeking. Help yourself sooner, rather than waiting until it is too late.
